Abstract
Many studies have been reported on the complex association between viruses and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE); including hypotheses concerning the induction of SLE by viral infections through molecular mimicry; epitope spreading; activation of T cells by microbial superantigens; bystander activation; and activation of lymphocytes by lymphotropic viruses. During the past decade; many viruses have been brought up in the pathogenesis of SLE. However; HAV has not yet been mentioned as the etiology of SLE. Here; we report a patient tested anti-HAV IgM positive without clinical symptoms of acute hepatitis when diagnosed with new-onset SLE. Because SLE is an immune system disorder; we should take into consideration a variety of etiologies in diagnosis.
Key Words: Anti-HAV IgM, Hepatitis A virus, Systemic lupus erythematosus
