Abstract
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a member of the Herpes viridae family. CMV infection is more frequently reported in immunocompromised patients with widely disseminated CMV infection. Therefore CMV is a common cause of life-threatening opportunistic infection in immunocompromised patients such as recipients of transplant and patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome. However; CMV infection is generally asymptomatic in healthy person. There are only a few reports of severe symptomatic infection in immunocompetent hosts. We report a case of 22-year-old female with disseminated intravascular coagulation due to acute CMV infection in an immunocompetent adult.
