Abstract |
Although there are many
cases of acute leukemia as a secondary malignancy that is a rare late complication of chemotherapy or radiotherapy; the coexistence of esophageal cancer and acute leukemia is not reported. Recently; we experienced a case of acute leukemia associated with esophageal cancer. A 77-year-old man presented with dysphagia. Esophagoscopy revealed infiltration mass at upper one-third of the esophagus. Examination confirmed squamous cell carcinoma. Peripheral blood examination revealed leukocytosis; anemia and thrombocytopenia. Bone marrow examination showed 61% blasts and 17.5% atypical cells. These cells showed positivity of CD5; CD7; CD13; CD33; CD34 and HLA-DR on immunophenotyping study. |
