A Case of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Arising from Budd-Chiari syndrome

Budd-Chiari 증후군에서 발생한 원발성 간세포암 1례

Abstract

Budd-Chiari syndrome is a collection of anatomic and physiologic changes brought about by the reduction of hepatic venous outflow. Generally; it comprises hepatic vein thrombosis and membranous obstruction of the inferior vena cava (MOVC). Although many cases of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) arisen arose in the patients with MOVC were reported in other countries; only a few case have been reported in Korea. We experienced a case of such HCC with unusual clinical course. The patient was 36 years old woman and had been diagnosed accidentaly 21 months ago as HCC arising from MOVC. She received once a baloon angioplasty of the inferior vena cava and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization four times. Fourteen months after the diagnosis of HCC; she became pregnant. However; she died of rupture of HCC at 28th weeks’ gestation.
