Abstract |
The alcoholic hazard in hepatobiliary disease was studied by the assays of liver microsomal UDP-glucuronosyltransferase activity in cholestasis induced by common bile duct (CBD) ligation after chronic ethanol intoxication in rats.
The microsomal UDP-glucuronosyltransferase activity and the Vmax value of the enzyme in the cholestatic rat liver combined with chronic ethanol intoxication showed further significant decrease compared to the activity from cholestasis alone. However; the Km value of the enzyme did not change The results indicate that the biosynthesis of the liver UDP-glucuronosyltransferase is decreasing in chronic ethanol intoxication with cholestasis than in cholestasis alone.
